Textile Design
These prints were created from the peonies that I painted using gouache. I scanned and indexed the painting into Adobe Photoshop, where I created the four prints. I experimented with different ways to create a repeat using the painting for the first two designs. I then created a plaid and stripe print from the same color scheme as the first two designs.
For the midterm project, we were instructed to create a childrenswear textile. My print was inspired by the West African Tinga Tinga art. I created three colorways that featured bright elements that would appeal to a child's eye and more neutral backgrounds that would appeal to the adult buyer's eye.
For the final project, we created three prints in three different colorways for an active wear line. I again drew inspiration from West African fabric and art. I used fun and bright colors that are often seen in women's active wear.
Senior Portfolio
During my Senior Portfolio course I wanted to utilize the knowledge I gained during my textile design co-op at Calvin Klein Jeans. I experimented with different tools and filters on Adobe Photoshop to create these prints. The first set were based off of the first image. One day while walking with some friends, one girl that I was with discovered that two of her car windows were smashed in. Then being the design students that we were, we also discovered that the sight of the broken glass on the brick sidewalk was actually pretty beautiful! I took a picture and it ended up helping my project!
Senior Thesis: Acadian Orchid
During my Senior Design courses I again decided to integrate textile design. Going off the name I chose for my collection "Acadian Orchid," I featured orchid flowers, petals, buds, and stems in the three prints. I focused on varying the repeat size and the color of the different designs.
