Swimwear & Childrenswear
For one of my fashion design classes, the first half focused on swimwear while the second half focused on childrenswear. This was the first class that we were making Ready-to-Wear garments and had to have model fittings. For the swimwear portion I designed and constructed a scuba inspired monokini and coverup skirt. For the childrenswear portion I designed and constructed a studded denim vest and a lace tiered dress.
Eveningwear
In this course, we were given 6 yards of white silk organza to create an eveningwear look, with an emphasis on draping. This was a challenging project as it was my first attempt with draping using the actual fashion fabric. I had to re-work what I was playing around with on the dress form many times until I felt confident with the design. Once I found the draped design I liked, I thread traced the many folds and pleats so that I would be able to remove the fabric, trace a flat pattern, then put it back together again on the form.
Senior Thesis: Acadian Orchid
My collection, "Acadian Orchid," was based around a strong female that is independent, confident, and loves to stand out in a crowd. To create the silhouettes I looked at the layering of orchid petals as well as other flowers. My looks explored the mixture of over-sized prints that I designed myself and organza and chiffon overlays. As a lover of prints, I wanted to find a way to mix prints in a non-conventional way that was bold but still feminine.
